So what is Collective Voice? Well, I like to think of it like this: First and foremost the project is built around a Mission Statement.
Politicsrus is an organisation that supports policy to address climate change and promote Democratic values. In pursuit of a more equitable society, we support racial, social and economic justice. We believe in police reform, a $15 minimum wage and healthcare for all. For us, this is not a liberal wish list, it's a set of attainable goals that can be met in any modern democracy.
This is a simple value statement that will be our guiding light. As the late great John Lewis said 'My philosophy is very simple, when you see something that is not right, not fair, not just. Stand up, say something. Speak up and speak out'. As Resisters, we are in the business of 'getting into good trouble, necessary trouble'.
Our primary objective at Politicsrus, is to make it easy to participate by expressing yourself and helping to push important transformational and consequential policy objectives. We are here to help you create the best posts you can and hopefully our post templates will help you achieve that.
Consider each Resister as a drop of water. In isolation, it's just a drop of water, but if you have a few drops, you create a puddle. The more you add, at some point, the growing puddle starts to flow. A stream then becomes a river, becomes an ocean. From an ocean, you can create a tsunami which can change a landscape. Now think of it in political terms and you you begin to understand its potential to influence change. Even better, you don't have to imagine the impact, it's already been tried and tested. Trump used it to poison the minds of millions, so we already know it works. The question is, can this be translated into transformational consequential change, rather than to promote racism hatred and division? We believe it can.
What are the objectives?
The challenge is to think outside the box. We all know the power of social media but the problem is, how we participate. If we are using it to communicate with friends on a social level, then it works well as this was what it was designed for. Things get a little more challenging though, when you want to use it for campaigning.
Life is fast moving and one thing's for sure, it will not wait for you to catch up, it will just march on regardless. This is what makes it so addictive. It's the fear of missing something, and we all share this fear.
The reason politicians have embraced social media, is because it is a cheap way of getting their message out there. We are not likely to forget what the Trump campaign did with it to cause catastrophic disruption and wage a war on science.
When it comes to political messaging, timelines can be almost self defeating. Messages fly past so quickly that it's easy to miss an important one. The challenge for those creating posts is, you fire off a post into the lottery that is the Twitter-sphere, in the hope that it gets picked up by someone who will amplify it. For a message to resonate, it needs reach and those with the biggest accounts have by definition a bigger reach. We all know that having a thousand followers doesn't mean that a thousand people hang on your every word. If a small number of them retweet your message, that's a result and we are all grateful to our tweeps.
For coherent political messaging to be effective, you have to come up with a more innovative way of coordinating it. Think about how many Resisters there are on Twitter? A LOT! Politics is by its very nature subjective, but there is a clear body of Twitter users that believe in the same things when it comes to a more equitable society, not dominated by hatred and division.
Our objective is to reach out to the Resister community and say: why don't we get together to create a Collective Voice? We know there are going to be differences of opinion, there always is when it comes to the things that matter. However, I think we could all agree, for example, that it would be great to come out of the 2022 mid term elections with a bigger majority in both the House and the Senate. It would be even better if we gain a majority in the Senate of over 10 seats. This would be provide a real mandate for consequential change.
How does it work?
We will take some of the legwork out of trying to find the most effective messages to amplify. We'll update Collective Voice each day with the posts we spot that really hit the mark on the messaging they convey. These will be our featured posts of the day and we would encourage members to like and retweet them. We will also have what we call priority posts that provide key messaging around critical policy. Sort of a pinned tweet, but we will be able to pin a few, so you can pick which ones best represent your values.
Each post will be integrated into our Messaging Library and be fully searchable. We will also tag them, so it will be easy to find posts on policy that are of most interest to you.
This means that you will be able to search by the various tags and have full keyword search for the posts themselves. Our aim here is to go beyond the Twitter search options, because we will be providing links to policy and political issues.
Once you have selected a post, it's then a simple matter of clicking on it to be taken to the actual post so you can then Retweet and/or like. It really is as simple as that.
By curating our own Resource Library, we will be quickly able to respond to political events and update the featured Tweets as required. We'll do all the work so all you have to do is use the power of your retweet finger.
Helping you create posts that impress.
We want to make it as easy as possible for you to contribute to the political conversation. We realise how frustrating it can be trying to say what you want to say given the character limitations of Twitter. To help, we are providing a fully searchable library of fact checked policy and social template messages. These can used and amend to meet your specific requirements. The difference with these is that, when you click on one, it will create a Tweet in your profile ready for you to post. By all means use the templates as they are, but we would encourage you to adjust them once the post is created so it best fits your personal messaging requirements.
Both the Tweets and the statements will all be stored in a fully searchable library, so finding the right Tweet or statement will be simple. For example, if you need a statement on healthcare for all, it's a simple policy search and all the tweets and statements will pop up ready for you to choose one.
Just to be clear, all output is fully editable once it appears in your new post, we are NOT telling you what to say, we are merely providing the policy framework for you to adapt to suit your needs.
I realise that this might be a little confusing on paper, but it is frighteningly simple, once you get hands on. If we can build an army of trusted and commited resisters, Collective Voice has the potential to revolutionise targeted messaging, especially as we integrate it into our video messaging too.
I realise that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so all I ask, is that you give it a go. You won't have to subscribe to use the basic functions. If you do subscribe, it's a FREE signup that can be cancelled at any time. There is no obligation to retweet all our featured posts, the choice is yours which ones you decide to pull the trigger on. The key is to just take 5 minutes each day to participate.

Help with visual impact
Nobody knows better than us about visual impact. We know what a good impression a great graphic can make and we will be producing a gallery of images designed for social media. So if you want to pair your new message up with a great image, we will be designing images for just that purpose.
We want your messages to have an impact, because when you succeed the message succeeds. We're here to help and our team will be available to help you with anything you don't understand.
Fancy writing your thoughts in a blog post?

NOW IT'S OVER
TO YOU
I know how it feels to be hindered by the character limits of Twitter. If you fancy taking your thoughts to a more long form format, we want to help. As part of our mission to encourage all voices to be heard, we want to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and maybe write a short blog post to see if blogging is for you. We provide the platform and fellow community Resisters will be your audience, along with any site visitors. Collective Voice is all about community and encouraging you to better express yourself.
I believe everyone has a good blog post in them, so take advantage of our Guest Writer Program to give it a go. It involves no cost and will be available to you as part of your membership.
No vanity project
This is not about us or about you for that matter, this is about the collective good. More importantly, this is about delivering More Blue in 2022. By being part of our organisation, you are expected to uphold the values of our Mission Statement. We are working on a set of terms and conditions in respect of discrimination etc., and this will be published shortly.
Together we can get this done. Remember, If you walk down the street with a crowd behind me, you're leading a movement. If you walk down the street on your own, you're just someone out for a walk. The next step of this journey is in your hands.
